Isfahan, 1034. Rob Cole and his family are forced to flee the Madrasah and head west with his medical students. Upon arriving in London, they discover that Muslims and Jews are forbidden to enter the city and cannot practice medicine within it. Undeterred, Cole and his pupils set up a makeshift hospital at the gates of London.
When Cole is summoned by the King to attend to his ailing daughter, his exceptional skills as a healer secure him a position at court. As he becomes embroiled in the power struggles and political intrigues of the royal household, the physician must rely on his instincts to survive in an England on the brink of collapse.
